Canon Character Information
Appearance:
Hawke is average height for a woman, with thin, lithe muscles, courtesy of using her staff as a polearm as much as a magical weapon. Her hair is black, cropped short around her ears, and she has startlingly light cyan eyes. Despite claiming to appreciate anonymity, she still keeps her trademark war paint, a slash of red over the bridge of her nose. You don't live in Kirkwall long without getting a few scars to show for it, and Hawke is no exception. The most notable scar is an ugly, large one square in the middle of her torso, with an identical one on her back, courtesy of the Arishok. The other ones worthy of note are long, straight scars on her forearms, usually hidden by her gloves. They were obviously delibrate, and anyone who knows much about blood magic can recognize that these scars are signs of a blood mage.

Personality:
Hawke is a woman who prefers to use words before violence, and those words are usually polite, no matter the company. In a city like Kirkwall, surrounded by ugliness, corruption, and apathy, she saw no reason to add yet more vileness to the world around her. What that world needed was a few kind words, someone to listen and to make people feel like someone out there cared. And that is what Hawke tries to give to others, a little bit of friendliness and goodwill. She's generally willing to listen to people, even when they have opinions differing from hers, and readily admits the validness of other people's points, if she feels it's so. If she can do so, she'd rather sit down and talk to other people to get to the root of a problem, rather than bash heads around and hope that it works.

That said, Hawke is perfectly willing to fight if others refuse to see reason. At least she can say that she tried, and she can be free from any guilt of the deaths of those people. She fights fiercely, and with no regrets, knowing that she's already done all she can to avoid the fight.

She is an extremely protective person, and uncompromising when it comes to keeping those she cares about safe. Before Lothering, that protectiveness was a simple product of being a big sister, reigned in and fairly relaxed, but quick to rise to a challenge when danger came. However, that defensiveness increased in leaps and bounds as time wore on, taking her family from her bit by bit. After Bethany's death, Hawke spent a year breathing down Carver's neck, keeping him at her side constantly. This made their relationship suffer, but she felt it was worth it, to make sure that she could keep him safe.

Then he followed her into the Deep Roads, and it was only thanks to Anders that Carver survived the trip. Her vigilance ramped up to nearly paranoid levels, and desperate to keep those close to her safe, she turned to blood magic to grant her enough power to do just that. It was, in a strange form of irony, her mother's death at the hands of another blood mage that calmed her paranoia into a more manageable state. Terrible things happened, and she couldn't control all of it, no matter how hard she tried.

These days, a good word for Hawke might simply be 'tired'. She's as polite as ever, as willing to speak before bloodshed, but there's a weariness about her, from someone who tried to give and to give, and in the end, still couldn't do enough.
Powers/Abilities/Talents:
Hawke is a mage, able to do magic with her innate powers. Her general spells are mostly elemental in nature, able to draw fireballs and frost, as well as lightning to rain down on her enemies. Hawke's spellpool mostly consists of offensive magic, and of those, she favors AOE spells--spells that she can use to attack multiple enemies at once. This preference largely came into play by her stay in Kirkwall, where you were regularly attacked by weak but numerous gangs if you stepped out into the street at night. While most mages from Thedas are limited to drawing from their mana pools to do magic, and are unable to cast if they run out of mana, Hawke benefits from being a blood mage. Blood mages are incredibly taboo in Thedas, and are feared and hated. But if you're willing to take the risk, you gain incredible amounts of power. You can draw from your own life force to draw power for magic, as well as the life force of those around you--willing or not. You can use this power to twist the minds of other people, even get them possessed, or corrupt the blood in their bodies, slowly killing them. Hawke prefers to only use her own blood, or the blood of people currently trying to kill her, but the potential is always there, and the temptation is something she must always fight.

On top of being a mage, Hawke is skilled in using her staff as a polearm--You can't always count on magic, and particularly with her preference for large, splashy attacks, it pays to have the ability to use a more physical weapon.

Hawke also has the distinctive talent of having, quite possibly, the worst luck in all of Thedas, and having her around is usually a sign that something terrible is about to happen, that a group is about to freak out and set your city on fire, or that abominations or serial killers might start targeting you and your loved ones. Approach with caution.

What 4 items would you like your character too have with them on the island during their stay? Her mabari hound Bear, her mage staff, a knife, and her Champion armor.

First Person:
[ Hawke peers curiously at the communication device, apparently not realizing that it was already recording her. She squints at it, tilts her head, and then prods the screen. Have a close up of her gloved hand, everyone. After a few moments, realization flickers across her face, and she pulls her hand away. ]

Oh--Is this already sending? Sorry, sorry--Ahem. Hello! My name is Marian Hawke.

[ She's speaking way louder than necessary, just in case this strange device is having trouble picking up her voice. ]

I'm from a land called Thedas, and I would like to know if anyone else here hails from it as well? Additionally, I would like to return to Thedas, because while these islands are quite lovely, I have business I must finish. People are depending on me, and I can't let them down. At the very least, if there is a way to contact Thedas...?

[ If she could at least let them know she's been waylaid, and where Warden Stroud is, then they can probably continue on without her, even if it means that she can't personally fight Corypheus. But--Well. Corypheus being stopped was more important than her pride. ]
